Working Under OPT Program
Many students come to USA for taking undergraduate, graduate or Phd degrees under F1 student visa. The USA is famous for having world’s best universities and colleges. But studying in these universities and colleges is not a cheapest option. Hence for many students, F-1 visa is a base for working full-time in USA same like working with H1B visa. - There are many advantages and disadvantages to study in USA. Apart from having an excellent education, one of the biggest advantages of F-1 visa is that you are allowed to work temporary under Occupational Practical Training commonly known as OPT.
- OPT is one of the way for a student to get full sponsorship like H1B visa category. H1B visa allows the student to find employment without an employer who sponsor them or pay additional cost for them. Hence, students get an experience as a foreign worker before committing to sponsor that person.
- Moreover, students get to trial and become familiar with US work lifestyle. It also helps a student to think whether present employer is fit and if not, they are allowed to have US work experience on their resume. This work experience along with US education is invaluable while finding out other work opportunities that suits you better.
- Students having F1 visa is allowed to work for 12 months in practical training through a certified advisor as the necessity for working towards their goal for the degree. This can be divided into Curricular Practical Training i.e. CPT or Occupational Practical Training i.e. OPT.
CPT means to work while study is divergent to following graduation. Working under CPT permission is given by International Students Office, body of Academic Intuitions like Post graduate, OPT is in-line with the field of study undertaken
