What to Study

At times a college graduate feels that his degree is insufficient for the type of job he/she wants. At times it becomes essential to achieve a higher degree, say to have USA master’s degree or a doctorate degree (PhD) to stabilize your career. In case you are looking for a job as an economist, a USA master’s degree may be helpful or if you are looking up in the teaching field in the university then a PhD degree will be must. In USA certain disciplines like law, medicine and dentistry are trained only at the graduate school program level.

USA master’s degree programs are not tendered in all colleges and universities of USA. Even USA PhD degree programs are tendered by very few colleges and universities. Furthermore, the number of majors available at the undergraduate level will be more when compared to the graduate level in graduate schools. Occasionally, a school will suggest only a few major at the graduate course level. As an example we can state the Stanford University which offers a master’s degree in business administration, but no undergraduate business degree program.

Two years of full-time graduate school assignments is usually required to complete USA masters degree. When compared to students doing a bachelor’s degree students in a master’s degree program will pursue his courses that are highly focused in their field of study that is their major. Before applying to a master’s degree program students must have already opted on their major.

Compared to the USA masters program, the doctoral program or the PhD program is more concentrated and specific. The duration of doctorate program is between three to six years and this duration will depend upon the student’s academic background, the specialization of study he has opted, his dedication and capacity and the complexity of the thesis he has selected for his PhD. In simple word thesis is a theory which is very lengthy, broad and unique research paper which has to be submitted to the specified authorities on completion of the PhD program.
