USA Student Visa Fees Information
For getting a non-migrant visa in USA, one should need to pay visa fees to USA Embassy. Visa fee includes the application fees and issuance fees subjected to the change which is the amount equivalent to Indian Rupees depending on the exchange rates. The student visa fees for USA include payments of:
- Non-immigrant visa application processing fees which is equivalent to USD $131, Form DS-156, Form DS-157, Form DS-158.
- SEVIS Fees payment of USD $200.
- Service charges payment defined by VFS providing courier and other charges.
Non-Immigrant Visa- Application Fees

There is a rate change in the nonimmigrant visa introduced in the visa fee structure. This had made USD $131 to USD $140. Non-petition based applicants have to pay less than the petition based applicants because of the significant process carried out for petition application than non-petition. The rates are increased to make significant improvement in speed and visa processing procedure especially in the fraud-detection efforts. The total application procedure fee includes the cost of accepting, arbitrating and issuing the visa.
Visa Issuance Fee:
The issuance fee for a visa is based on the nationality of the prospective applicant. In case the visa is refused or rejected, the Issuance fees are refunded back. This amount has to be carried along with you when you are going for visa interview. For the Indian and Bhutanese students applying student visa for USA, this fee is exempted for them from November8, 2006. These students have to pay only visa application fee and VFS Service charge.
Fee Payment:
F1 Student visa fees can be paid either through Cash or issuing Demand Draft. Many Indian banks provide facility to accept Visa Fees and process the same to US Embassy. Personal Checks and Credit Cards are not acceptable.
1. Cash: Cash payment is done only when denominations is minimum 100s or more than that. Travel Agent, Bulk Applicants, Bearer payments are not acceptable while making the cash payments.
2. Demand Draft (DD): Demand Draft can be issued from any Scheduled Commercial Banks of India. Demand Drafts issued through any co-operative banks are not accepted. Make sure to write your name and the passport number on the back side of the Demand Draft only by pencil. If there is more than one fee to be paid than you have to prepare separate Demand draft for every fee.
