Scope for Engineering Graduates

Immigrants in USA especially from India have shown their excellence as entrepreneurs, managers and venture capitalists. According to Anna Lee Saxenian (who had studied the networks of businesses in University of California), there are Indian immigrants who are the founders and top executives of more than 972 companies of USA. India has massive pool of engineering talents. There are large amount of career opportunity in field of engineering job as it is the fastest growing industry worldwide. However, increasing employment in the field of engineering, research and development and consulting services industries has generated most of the employment growth.

Because of the competition and advancement in the technology, the companies forcefully have to develop and modernize the design of the product, optimize the process of manufacturing and maintain the quality product. For this the international employers have to depend upon the Indian engineers for enhancing the productivity, investment in equipments and plants, increase the outcome of the goods and services. With the help of new technology it has become a continuous process to improve design process that enabled engineers to analyze and produce various product designs with more frequency than in the past. Engineering is the field that provides innovative ideas which lead to improved products and more productive manufacturing process.

Additionally, there is a high demand of engineers to strengthen the overall infrastructure of the country which includes building of new roads, bridges, water and pollution control system and other facilities that are essential to the general public. In India, there is an ample demand of Indian professionals in the international market and companies worldwide that are really fighting for employing Indian engineering professionals.

According to the research, overall employment in field of engineering is expected to grow by 11% in the decade 2008-2018 which is considered to be fastest growth as compared to all other occupations. In engineering, graduate is the primary and sufficient degree to be the part of this employment growth. However, this employment growth may vary to some extent by specialty. Today, biomedical engineer is expected to grow fastest while civil engineers are expected to see largest increase in employment.

It is also a fact that due to economic slowdown, industries like electronics and aerospace have opted large cutbacks in expenditure in the past. Even the trend of contracting engineering job work with domestic and foreign engineering service firms also made engineers to layoff during slowdown. However, many engineers who were involved in long-term research and development projects which never face economic problems of slowdown.

Finally, the most important part for engineers who are involved as workers in scientific and technical occupations needs to continue their education throughout their lives to cope up with the latest technological advancements. Even the engineers who are related to information technology or biotechnology may find themselves outdated rapidly. Hence by keeping themselves up-to-date in their field, engineers will be able to deliver the best solutions to their employers.
