GMAT Test Preparation

A. Over- Confidence
If you are thinking of giving the test without making any effort or preparation, then think again. It is advisable to be focused and give the exams seriously.

B. Focus on strengths and weakness equally
Some of the students focuses just on their strengths ignoring to overcome their weakness, on other hand some students focuses more on their weakness and ignore their strengths. In both the approaches, you will not score well in your GMAT. Your test scores depend on the number of questions attempted correctly along with their difficulty level. It also depends on your performance to the specific range of questions types and specific characteristics covered in those questions. Hence, it is required to prepare for all the sections in the test. Keep in mind that many schools have their own formulas to evaluate the student on your GMAT scores. Ideally, focus in each and every section and every question type in that section.

C. Undue emphasis on practice-test score
If the school of your choice has already declared minimum entry scores, you should set your test goal according to your school. Do not concern much about your GMAT scores, but focus on your areas of improvement and plan out strategy to do between now and your day of the test that can become useful to score maximum.

D. Over-preparation
Preparation for your test is to get comfortable and familiarize yourself with it. Build up your patience, interest, motivation and performance at your peak on the day of test. Develop an sense for spotting incorrect answer choices, correct poor test-habits and find your optimal pace at the time of taking test. Hence, do not over prepare by start preparing for the test before many months in advance or do not postpone your test dates to give much time to prepare yourself.

E. High expectations
Everyone has some limitation to an extent with their capabilities. You should accept your limitation. Prepare yourself so that you can reasonably perform in your test. This is true especially for the theory test.

F. The essays
Many schools state their admission scores on Quantitative and Verbal section. These schools are often dimmer on stating their scores for the essay section. But it does not mean to give less importance on essay part. Give equal importance to all the sections and especially to essay because it includes in drafting the overall average of the student at the time of the results.

G. Negative views:
Do not give chance to you to think on negative thoughts or too much positive thoughts. Do not entertain thoughts like I will clear GMAT in one round or If I will perform poor or I will lose MBA program. It is the matter of time and efforts that you can perform well in any exam. Hence, focus of the preparation of your study. Take at least one test as a full practice to get comfortable with the testing environment. In the second round, you will be more relaxed and able to improve your score in second tests.
